Did Tony Romo diss Aaron Rodgers talking about Brett Favre?

Tony Romo cake

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is a big fan of both Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers, having grown up in Wisconsin. Though Romo kind of dissed Aaron Rodgers and inserted his foot into his mouth when speaking about his beloved NFL team.

“Without Brett Favre, the Green Bay Packers really aren’t the Green Bay Packers, even though they have a great history and [Vince] Lombardi and everything else that goes into it,” Romo said Wednesday at his football camp, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “I was watching football before they had Brett Favre and Green Bay was not someone that you had to worry about on your schedule if you were playing in the NFL.”

Favre is, of course, legendary. He is slated to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in August after a brilliant 16-year run with Green Bay when he established record-setting stats.

But, Rodgers isn’t exactly chopped liver. During his tenure as a starter, Rodgers has led the Packers to the playoffs in every year but 2008. He has achieved All-Pro status twice and is a five-time Pro-Bowler. Plus, Rodgers toted the Lombardi after a 2010 Championship season.

Can we ascertain that Romo seriously doesn’t view Rodgers and the Packers as a legitimate threat in the NFC?

In the end, Romo did give a bit of a thumbs-up to Rodgers when he stated this.

“They come around once in a generation. Green Bay’s been lucky enough to go from Brett to Aaron [Rodgers] and that’s just unrealistic in real life to have that happen in professional sports.”

At this time, we haven’t noticed a retort by Rodgers on his Twitter account in regards to Romo’s remarks. But it will be interesting to see how well in stride Rodgers takes the news once it circulates around the water cooler.
