Report: Dan Skuta arrested, charged for misdemeanor battery

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Dan Skuta was arrested on June 19 after allegedly pushing a woman’s head into a building window in Orlando, Fla.

Per Mike Kaye of WTLV, Skuta is being charged with misdemeanor assault. He posted a $500 bond on June 20 and is scheduled to be back in court on July 20.

The incident occurred when Skuta became angry that the alleged victim would not give him her phone number, per the report. She was not visibly injured when the police arrived but still decided to press charges.

Working against the linebacker is the fact that he appeared inebriated.

“The arresting officer noted that Skuta had blood shot/glassy eyes and had the smell alcohol on his breath following the incident,” Kaye noted.

As usual in cases such as these, the team isn’t saying much about the arrest but did release a short statement about the matter.

“The Jaguars are aware of the situation involving linebacker Dan Skuta and are currently gathering more information. The team has been in constant communication with Dan through this process in its entirety. No further comment can be made at this time.”

Because the alleged act was an act of violence against a woman, Skuta will certainly be subject to NFL discipline if anything comes of this case against him.

He is in the second of a five-year contract signed before the 2015 season with Jacksonville. He will count for $3.6 million against the cap this season, all of which is fully guaranteed. After the 2016 campaign, there is no more guaranteed money left on the contract and the Jaguars could cut him without any dead money left on the deal.

A solid role player the past three years with the San Francisco 49ers and Jaguars, Skuta has started in 26 games during this stretch.
