Warriors-Thunder game fourth most-watched NBA game in cable history

Most of the sports world was tuned into Chesapeake Arena in Oklahoma City on Saturday night as the Thunder attempted to close out the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals.

After looking like the Thunder would blow out the Warriors for the third time in the series, Golden State mounted a seemingly impossible comeback, fending off elimination and forcing a Game 7 in Oakland on Memorial Day.

True legends were born, including Klay Thompson’s record-breaking 11 three-pointers in the huge Warriors win.

According to Sports Media Watch, the game drew a 7.9 overnight rating on TNT, the fourth-most viewed NBA game in cable television history.

With the NBA Finals primarily being on basic cable, currently on ABC, this doesn’t take into account views for those games.

Though, it’s still a rather stunning number for a Saturday night during a holiday weekend in the United States. All said, it was the highest-rated game of the NBA season thus far.

It will definitely be interesting to see what Monday night’s Game 7 will draw. It will be going up directly against Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks.
