Tony Romo jokes about ‘getting younger each year’

Tony Romo

Tony Romo might be 36 and coming off of a nearly completely lost season, but he’s not close to thinking about retirement.

Speaking to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback implied that he’s aging in reverse.

“With the way that it’s going right now, the running joke is that I’m the only one in here getting younger each year, so we’ll see if that continues,” Romo said

Williams also provided some specific insight on how many years that Romo and the Cowboys feel that the quarterback has left.

“Romo, 36, feels so good that he’s thinking about playing past the “four or five years” that owner Jerry Jones has said Romo has left in him. Romo joked about “seven or eight” more years.”

Seven or eight might be pushing it, but four to five doesn’t seem too far-fetched. Remember, we just saw a 39-year-old Peyton Manning win a Super Bowl and a soon to be 39-year-old Tom Brady is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.

Quarterbacks, even ones like Romo who have dealt with some injuries, are still very well protected by the rules when it comes to taking hits.

Unless he actually is going all Benjamin Button on us and aging in reverse, it’s not likely that we’ll see Romo under center when he’s into his mid-40’s. But in 4-5 years, he’ll only be in his early 40’s. Betting against him playing that long would not be well advised.
