New Orleans Saints offensive tackle Terron Armstread is about to become a very rich young man. Josina Anderson of ESPN is reporting Armstead is set to sign a five-year extension through the 2021 season that Adam Schefter describes as “big.”

Armstead was originally drafted in the third round (No. 75 overall) during the 2013 NFL Draft.

The athleticism and raw potential scouts saw in him coming out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff has developed nicely. A two-year starter, he’s emerged as one of the best young left tackles in the NFL.

Armstead has been recognized by those who study tape as a top performer. He was listed by Pro Football Focus as one of five players who should have made last year’s Pro Bowl but did not, though he ultimately made it in as an alternate.

Our third-highest rated offensive tackle has put together, on a consistent basis this season, the kind of play he had shown in streaks over the first two years of his career. Armstead didn’t allow a sack until Week 9 against the Titans, and has earned a positive grade in all but one game that he has played this season.”

Needless to say, the Saints are excited to lock Armstead up for the foreseeable future as the cornerstone for their offensive line.

Protecting quarterback Drew Brees and his eventual successor is of utmost importance if the Saints hope to turn things around in the coming years after two seasons in a row of mediocrity.
