Report: Jalen Ramsey expected to need surgery, be ready for Week 1

Jalen Ramsey suffered a small meniscus tear in his knee during rookie minicamp, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are hopeful he won’t miss any time this season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting the team’s first-round draft pick is likely to need surgery but is expected to be available for Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. He’s going to be meeting with world renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews this week.

This is really the best possible outcome after such an inauspicious start to his career in Jacksonville. Ramsey, like Dante Fowler Jr. last year, barely got going on the practice field before injuring his knee. At this point, Jaguars fans must be feeling a bit cursed.

Provided everything goes off without a hitch and he’s able to recover in time for the season, Ramsey should become an instant impact player for Jacksonville. He joins fellow rookie linebacker Myles Jack, who has wondered how in the world teams let Jacksonville get both of them, and Fowler as new additions on an improving defense.

Coupled with the team’s already outstanding offense, this is a recipe for success that should propel Jacksonville to make a huge leap in 2016.
