Watch out Victor Cruz, there is a new wideout in town that is catching the eye of quarterback Eli Manning.

The New York Giants selected former Oklahoma standout Sterling Shepard in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft last week. It was a direct message to the ailing Cruz. Get back to your old self, or face the real possibility of being replaced.

Shepard arrives in New Jersey after recording 86 receptions for 1,288 yards and 11 scores for the Sooners last season.

With Cruz’ long-term health in question after missing the entire 2015 season due to various injuries, the Giants are taking precautions.

According to Manning’s father, Archie, his son is looking forward to working with Shepard:

“Eli’s really excited about that,” Archie Manning said, via the Houston Chronicle. “After he was drafted, I got texts from guys like Bob Stoops, Barry Switzer and Spencer Tillman – all loyal Sooners – telling me not only is he a great player, but he’s also a great kid.”

With Odell Beckham Jr. locked in as the No. 1 receiver for the Giants, it appears the team is looking for a secondary receiving option in the passing game. If Shepard is that guy, it will make things interesting for Cruz’ future with the squad.

A total of 10 receivers are currently on the Giants roster with Shepard being listed behind Cruz on the depth chart.

After loading up on several strong defensive players in free agency and in the draft, the Giants are definitely one of the league’s select teams poised for success in 2016.
