Report: LeSean McCoy could still face charges following review

LeSean McCoy

LeSean McCoy’s incident with a couple of off-duty Philadelphia police officers is reportedly being sent up the ladder after John McNesby, president of the Fraternal Order of Police’s Lodge 5, asked the state attorney general’s office to review the case.

This news broke Saturday morning, courtesy of NBC10 in Philadelphia.

“Solicitor General Bruce Castor granted McNesby’s request in a letter Tuesday,” per NBC10. “Castor said the office will review the evidence to determine whether state attorneys think it overwhelmingly supports charges. If so, the attorney general’s office could ask a court to overturn Williams’ decision.”

Those familiar with this case aren’t likely surprised by this development.

Dating back to even before the D.A.’s decision to not press charges, there have been rumblings of discontent emanating from the local police department to which the two officers who were injured in the fight with McCoy are attached.

An anonymous Philly police department official blasted the district attorney, calling the entire investigation “a disgrace and a mockery.”

However, once the investigation was closed by the D.A., who did not find enough evidence to charge McCoy, most assumed the ordeal was over from a legal perspective. However, if the attorney general’s office finds enough evidence, NBC10 is reporting they could ask a court to overturn the original verdict.

Not only would this impact McCoy from a legal and perhaps criminal perspective, but it would also likely have a huge impact on his NFL season in 2016. The NFL has not concluded its investigation into the matter, and at this point it doesn’t seem likely the league will rush into any judgement.

If he is charged with assault, then an NFL suspension would almost certainly be added to any legal ramifications the Buffalo Bills running back would face in that scenario.
