Celtics star Isaiah Thomas suffers ankle sprain

NBA playoffs Isaiah Thomas

Guards are dropping like flies in the NBA Playoffs. A day after Chris Paul suffered a broken right hand and two days following Stephen Curry’s sprained MCL, comes this pretty alarming report from the Boston Celtics:

A mild ankle sprain isn’t necessarily something to fret over under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, the Boston Celtics find themselves down 3-2 in their best-of-seven series against the Atlanta Hawks.

Game 6 between these two teams is Thursday in Boston. Without knowing the full extent of Thomas’ injury outside of it being a mild ankle sprain, it seems highly unlikely that Thomas will play on Thursday.

Should the Celtics come out on top to force a Game 7 on Saturday, his status will definitely be up in the air.

Thomas entered Tuesday’s action as the leading scorer in the NBA Playoffs at 25.8 points per game.

If he is out for the remainder of the series, it will be a major blow to the Celtics’ hopes of advancing beyond the first round. That’s only magnified by the absence of fellow guard Avery Bradley for the series.
