Report: Dwight Howard could re-join Magic

Dwight Howard

Could Dwight Howard really head back to Orlando to play for the Magic?

According to Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, the answer to this question is yes.

While Howard’s first choice would be to remain with the Houston Rockets next season, Bucher reports the All-Star center has reached out to the Magic through “back channels” to see if Orlando would be interested in signing him.

There has been no word back from the Magic about whether or not the team would be interested.

Set to be an unrestricted free agent following the 2015-16 season if he opts out of his player option next year, Howard was the subject of many a trade rumor before the deadline. Ultimately, no team was willing to give up much to trade for an aging big man who seems to cultivate difficult circumstances wherever he lands.

That said, given his ability to score, rebound and block shots, Howard (age 30) should still pull in one more massive contract before his body starts to give out.

Playing for the Rockets this year, Howard is averaging 14.3 points, 12 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

His numbers are down somewhat, playing with ball hog James Harden.

One might surmise an increase in production would be possible playing on a team in which Howard was fed more down low in a system that featured him more often.

Despite his waning production, Howard will still be one of the top players on the market if he does choose to exercise his option.
