Mario Williams visiting with the Miami Dolphins

Just a few short days after he was released by the division-rival Buffalo Bills, defensive end Mario Williams might have his eyes set on South Beach.

The four-time Pro Bowl performer is reportedly visiting with the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.

Williams, 31, had somewhat of a falling out with first-year Bills head coach Rex Ryan this past season. He put the coaching staff on blast after the Bills were eliminated from playoff contention in December following a loss to the Washington Redskins.

For Williams’ part, he saw substantially less action as the 2015 season drew on — likely one of the reasons he seemed fed up with the scheme and staff.

More than this, Williams’ production didn’t fall in line with the six-year, $96 million contract he signed with Buffalo back in 2012. The former No. 1 overall pick recorded just 19 tackles and five sacks this past season.

Williams was set to count $19 million against the cap in 2016. Clearly a number the Bills weren’t interested in paying him.

Interestingly, Miami currently finds itself over the cap. Any signing of Williams would have to take place after it clears cap space. The team has been trying to restructure the contracts of Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake.

In terms of a fit, Williams to the Dolphins makes a ton of sense. They run a base 4-3 scheme, the same scheme that saw Williams rack up 38 sacks for the Bills from 2012-14.

He’d also be an intimidating force next to Suh and the recently retained Olivier Vernon.
