Champion boxer Floyd Mayweather is well known for his gambling habit, but the superstar is legitimately thinking about stepping away from that passion to pursue another.

Mayweather, speaking with reporters at a press conference for his fighter, Ashley Theophane (set to fight Adrien Broner), says he has his sights set on owning an NBA team, as David P.Greisman of BoxingScene.com reported:

“You guys know I like to bet on sports, but I’m looking forward to stepping back from betting in sports right now,” Mayweather said. “I’m looking forward to probably getting into ownership of an NBA team.”

Mayweather has been linked to the Los Angeles Clippers in the past. Back in 2014, ESPN’s Dan Rafael reported on Mayweather’s attempt to get a piece of the LA franchise. At the time, Rafael pointed to Mayweather’s legal issues as a potential hindrance to his bid at owning an NBA team.

One of the other issues, of course, is Mayweather’s gambling, which is a big no-no for any NBA owner.

The retired boxer has been spending huge amounts of cash to gamble on sports in the past. However, putting millions down to own an NBA team could be considered a gamble, too.

It remains to be seen if Mayweather would be welcomed into the fraternity of NBA owners, but stepping back from his gambling would be a great first start towards that goal.
