Prior to his team’s win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry congratulated friend Cam Newton on making it to the Super Bowl.

Curry also offered up some advice to the Carolina Panthers quarterback just hours before he’s set to take on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50:

“Congratulations on all the success so far but the job isn’t done. Enjoy the experience of playing in the Super Bowl. Having played in NBA championships, it’s an unforgettable experience and something that you want to be able to enjoy and embrace,” Curry said in an interview with Bleacher Report. “But just be yourself, the same Cam, the same Panthers that got you to that point and get it done. Keep pounding, i’m rooting for you.”

Raised in North Carolina as his father played for the Charlotte Hornets, Curry grew up a Panthers fan. So when it became apparent the Panthers were doing something special, the reigning NBA MVP used his star power to throw support the team’s way. In the process, he has acquired a new friend in Newton.

Curry even went as far to guarantee that both his Warriors and the Panthers would come out on top this weekend.

Golden State did its part in a 116-108 win over the Thunder on Saturday — the team’s 41st consecutive home win. Now at 46-4 on the season, the defending champs seem to be odds on favorites to win a second consecutive title.

For Curry, the amazing run of success he’s seen over the past two years could take on a new meaning if his buddy is able to hoist the Lombardi mere miles from where he suits up on a near nightly basis.
