Report: Wizards acquire Markieff Morris from the Suns

It was just a matter of time before the Phoenix Suns pulled the trigger and traded the last of the Morris twins.

That time came just minutes prior to Thursday’s trade deadline, as Phoenix sent Markieff Morris to the Washington Wizards in exchange for DeJuan Blair, Kris Humphries and a 2016 first-round pick.

Morris had fallen out of favor in Phoenix following the off-season trade of his brother, Marcus, to the Detroit Pistons. He acted out multiple times, including an incident in which he threw a towel at then Suns head coach Jeff Hornecek, prompting a suspension by the team.

A heck of a talent, Morris could act as a real boon for a Wizards team that struggled big time in the lead up to the All-Star Break.

Washington currently boasts a 23-28 record and would be out of the playoffs if they started today.

Morris, 26, was averaging 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting just 40 percent from the field at the time of the trade.

Though, he has picked it up big time recently. The former first-round pick is averaging 20.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists over the past five games.

With Morris’ trade value at an all-time low, Phoenix did a good job to get a first-round pick in return. That pretty much was the floor the team was going to demand in any deal involving the enigmatic forward.

The 2016 first-round pick is top-nine protected.
