Report: Johnny Manziel says Cowboys, Rams and Chiefs interested in him

Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel believes there are at least three NFL teams interested in him at this time.

Ed Werder of ESPN reports Manziel has told people the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs have expressed interest him him, though Werder disputes the Chiefs as being an interested party.

This is somewhat of a surprise.

Manziel is currently being investigated by police and the NFL for potential assault stemming from an incident over the weekend, and the quarterback hasn’t shown any inkling of responsibility since entering the league in 2014.

Werder’s assertion that the Chiefs are not interested makes sense. With a cohesive roster, locked-in starter in Alex Smith and potential strong backup quarterback in Aaron Murray, there is no reason to think Andy Reid would be inclined to bring a potential locker-room cancer like Manziel on board.

Dallas has been mentioned as a potential landing spot for the past year, but that would be a terrible spot for the party boy Manziel to end up. That locker room isn’t exactly a bastion of security and peace, and he’s bound to get into trouble, given the temptations that exist in that neck of the woods.

ESPN’s Todd Archer does not see the Cowboys bringing Manziel on board, either:

“Playing in Dallas could be the worst destination for Manziel because of the trappings of the area and his celebrity, if not his play on an NFL field,” Archer wrote.

“A backup quarterback has to be reliable. Manziel has not shown that in Cleveland. It’s hard to imagine he would do so with the Cowboys.”

While the Rams certainly do need a quarterback, Manziel has done nothing thus far to indicate he’ll be better than Nick Foles, and at least Foles is a reliable guy off the field. Furthermore, anything that was true about Dallas being a bad destination is doubly true for Los Angeles.

Perhaps the only thing worse would be Manziel playing for the Las Vegas Raiders, if that is where that franchise lands.

At this point, it seems unlikely any NFL team would be eager to attach their name to that of Manziel’s. He’s done everything he can to make himself untouchable, despite any potential interest from teams he’s telling people about.
