Report: 49ers reverse field on Girl Scouts, will pay for event

The San Francisco 49ers have decided to change their minds and will host the Girl Scouts of Northern California after first cancelling on the group in favor of making money with a concert.

Mike Rosenberg of the San Jose Mercury News has been all over this story. He first reported the team’s decision to cancel on the Girl Scouts and now he’s got the scoop on the team reversing field:

The reversal has everything to do with the public outcry against the 49ers, too, per Rosenberg:

Hopefully the team won’t need to wait until its fans and neighbors cry foul next time around.

The team had initially taken advantage of a clause in its agreement with the Girl Scouts in which it was allowed to break the deal if something better came along.

Not surprisingly the parents and children who were initially spurned felt betrayed, but hopefully they feel better about things now, especially in light of the team’s repentant action of paying for everything.

Money is great, but fan loyalty is priceless.
