Eric Berry named NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year

Eric Berry

It’s a heartwarming story at a time when the NFL hasn’t seen a whole bunch of great news come its way. Just a little more than a year after he had to put his football career on hold while battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has been named the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year for the 2015 season.

Berry beat out the likes of Carson Palmer, Adrian Peterson, NaVorro Bowman and Doug Martin for the prestigious honor during Saturday’s annual awards show.

The four-time Pro Bowl performer recorded 61 tackles, two interceptions and 10 passes defended while earning First-Team All-Pro honors for the Chiefs this past regular season.

In a normal year someone like Bowman would have been the obvious choice here. But what Berry came back from and how he has performed since beating cancer has to be considered one of the best stories in recent NFL history.
