Report: Giants set to promote Ben McAdoo to head coach

Ben McAdoo

It didn’t take the New York Giants too long to replace long-time head coach Tom Coughlin. Reports Wednesday evening indicate that the team is prepared to promote offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo to that role:

McAdoo has been considered a favorite to land the job after Coughlin resigned earlier this month following a 12-year stint as the team’s head coach.

McAdoo, 38, became the Giants offensive coordinator prior to the 2014 season after serving as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers for eight years, including the final two seasons as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

This promotion makes sense for a ton of reasons. First off, McAdoo implemented a completely new offense that seemed to fit Eli Manning’s skill-set.

The Giants responded by finishing 13th in points scored in 2014 before finishing in the top six in that category this past regular season.

For his part, Manning has put up his two best statistical seasons under McAdoo — an indication that this transition should go rather swimmingly.
