Bloodhound Ludivine ran entire half-marathon in Alabama

In the immortal words of Forest Gump, “I just felt like running.”

April Hamlin was just letting her bloodhound, Ludivine, out to do what dogs do when the hound bolted and found the Elkmont, Ala. town half-marathon instead.

Ludivine ran the half-marathon in 1:32:56, finishing seventh, per Canadian Running:

“Our little town of 500 is getting a kick out of the story going international,” laughed race director Gretta Armstrong after Canadian Running first reported the story.

The owner of the hound was pretty worried at first about her dog potentially becoming a safety hazard:

“All I did was open the door, and she ran the race on her own accord,” Hamlin, 43, told Runner’s World, saying she received texts with photos of Ludivine from friends who were volunteering at the finish. “My first reaction was that I was embarrassed and worried that she had possibly gotten in the way of the other runners.”

Thankfully nobody was hurt. Instead, a legend was born.
