Julian Edelman is reportedly healing up nicely from his broken foot, and the New England Patriots could get him back before the playoffs.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, there is a “good chance” he’s back on the field for New England for Week 17’s game on the road against the Miami Dolphins.

No doubt, the Pats and their fans would rather have the shifty receiver back in the fold for Week 16 when they head up north to take on the New York Jets. However, just knowing there’s a chance he’ll be playing before the postseason is good news.

New England has already clinched the AFC East, but home-field advantage throughout the playoffs is still on the line. Regardless of where they play during the playoffs, the Patriots need Edelman back at full strength to have a shot at repeating as NFL champs.

Perhaps even more so than Rob Gronkowski, Edelman is the key to New England’s passing attack being effective at moving the chains and setting up scoring opportunities. Before getting injured in mid-November, the receiver had racked up 61 catches for 692 yards and seven touchdowns.
