WATCH: ESPN’s Robert Flores makes bold statement on why Cam Newton’s dancing is criticized

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton

ESPN’s Robert Flores said what we’re all thinking while on air Monday about why Cam Newton’s celebratory dance moves are criticized, while others get away without any comments from the national peanut gallery.

As he watched a highlight of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who caught a touchdown pass Sunday and then Hit the Quan afterwards, Flores wondered aloud why there are no mothers writing letters to editors about how offensive his moves are.

Then he dropped a bomb, saying it’s “because he’s not black. That’s probably what it is.”

Respect.

It’s no secret guys like Tom Brady are praised for their “fiery leadership” when they act out during games, while Newton seems to face endless criticism for his way of expressing himself. Usually, he’s got a huge smile on his face as he points downfield to signal a first down, or he’s got a huge smile on his face as he dances to celebrate a touchdown or big run down the field.

But somehow his moves are unbelievably offensive to many across the nation.

It makes no sense at all until you factor in what Flores said, and then it makes PERFECT sense.

Newton is judged differently than his white peers, and that’s reprehensible. It’s time to stop hating on the man for being himself. Newton is a model citizen who gives generously and who hardly ever puts himself into situations where he embarrasses himself or anyone else, his recent run-in with ‘Bama fans, notwithstanding.

It’s time to put an end to all the hate. Newton is a guy we should be praising, and I for one would love to see my son have as much fun at his job when he grows up as Newton does at his profession.

Keep dancing, Cam.
