Seahawks corner woke up from surgery when team was on 1-yard line

Jeremy Lane

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane exited Super Bowl XLIX because he broke his wrist and tore his ACL on a first-quarter interception, but his nightmarish day didn’t end there.

According to Gregg Bell of The News Tribune, Lane immediately underwent surgery and eventually woke up when the Seahawks were on the 1-yard line during the final minute of the game.

In case you’re not familiar with what happened next, Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson threw a game-sealing interception. The Seahawks could’ve used Marshawn Lynch, the most powerful running back in the sport, to finish the job. Instead, they lost the championship in heart-breaking fashion.

Bell notes Lane said he thought it was a dream and didn’t realize until the next day that Seattle had actually lost.

Words can hardly describe how badly everyone—perhaps but hopefully not except Patriots fans—must feel. The guy broke his wrist and tore his ACL, couldn’t finish playing in the Super Bowl and then woke up only to see one of the most gut-wrenching losses in championship history.

Football is merely a game, but that’s remarkably sad.

Lane returned to the practice field Monday after spending eight weeks on the physically unable to perform list. Seattle now has three more weeks to decide to activate Lane or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

If only we could promise Lane will never have a worse day than Feb. 1, 2015.
