Chip Kelly ‘isn’t going anywhere,’ Eagles defensive coordinator says

The Philadelphia Eagles disaster of a situation means more changes are probably on the way, but defensive coordinator Bill Davis believes head coach Chip Kelly isn’t voluntarily leaving.

Kelly has been linked to potential NFL vacancies as well as open college opportunities, but Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com notes Davis said Kelly is totally committed to Philly.

“Chip isn’t going anywhere. Nope. I promise you that. … [He’s] not kind of committed. All-in committed. I know it. He is a fighter. He don’t run.”

Big-name college programs like USC and LSU are poised to be looking for a new coach, while Miami and others would certainly be intrigued at Kelly’s prospects.

His Philadelphia tenured started out well, tallying a pair of 10-win seasons and reaching the playoffs once. However, Kelly booked a power trip during the offseason and gained player personnel controls, trading and releasing key players then signing ill-fitting players.

Kelly hasn’t suddenly forgotten how to coach, especially considering his 24-19 record would be a top-60 mark in NFL history if he qualified for minimum games. Rather, he seems like the classic case of ascending too quickly, skipping a coordinator position at the professional level before taking the helm.

No matter if Kelly is committed, though, his future probably isn’t in Philly. But he’s still an excellent candidate for other NFL jobs—especially the Tennessee Titans, where his former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota now plays.
