Aaron Rodgers frustrated with receivers: ‘We’re just on different pages’

Aaron Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers put up a dud of a performance on Thanksgiving night, ceding a win to the Chicago Bears, 17-13. This marked the team’s second consecutive loss at Lambeau Field this year.

Painfully obvious during Thursday’s loss was quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ disconnect with his receivers. After completing only 22-of-43 attempts for 202 yards, one touchdown and one interception, Rodgers was clearly upset about the lack of cohesion between himself and his playmakers.

“I’m obviously going to have to make sure my preparation is as high as it’s ever been because we need to get on the same page, the passing game,” Rodgers said after the loss, via Weston Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press Gazette. “We’re just on different pages. When you miss throws, when I’m throwing at a certain depth, when receivers are running at certain depth — we’re obviously on different pages.”

And, it’s not just this game when Rodgers and his receivers failed get in sync. Over the last three games, Rodgers has targeted Devante Adams 36 times for which Adams has only had 15 catches for 129 yards and no touchdowns. Furthermore, Randall Cobb and Rodgers are not jelling either. At this point in the season, Cobb has caught only 56 percent of his intended passes versus last season when he finished the year catching 72 percent of his passes.

Regarding Rodgers’ overall performance, he achieved a 62.4 passer rating, which is his lowest for this season and his career-low at Lambeau Field. He is also on pace to throw for 3,904 passing yards which would be his lowest yardage ever in seasons when he started in all 16 games. Fortunately, his interceptions remain low (four) considering he has attempted 390 passes over the course of 11 games.

Guard T.J. Lang shared his thoughts on the team’s struggles.

“All-time high,” guard T.J. Lang said about the offense’s frustration level. “I mean, it was obviously tough a few years ago when Aaron was out, but we don’t have any excuses now. It’s just the same stuff that’s been holding us down all year. We’ve got five games, and we’ve got to find a way to correct the mistakes.”

Rodgers and his receivers being out of sync would be understandable if the team was only a couple of games in. Though, after 11 games, there actually appears to be some regression that the team will need to fix if it wants a fighting chance to top the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North.
