Hall of Famer Michael Irvin isn’t optimistic about Terrell Owens making a comeback with the Dallas Cowboys. Owens, who is 41 years old, is making it known that he’s available to any NFL teams in need of receivers.

Per TMZ.com, Owens had his agent contact the Dallas Cowboys to start the wheels in motion to see if the team would consider signing him to fill in for the injured Dez Bryant.

Irvin caught wind of the story when he was approached at LAX airport by reporters from TMZ Sports, who asked Irvin if he thought T.O. might be able to help out his struggling former team.

Irvin acknowledged the sad state of the Cowboys, who are hurting without Tony Romo and Bryant. However, he didn’t seem to think that Owen could provide much relief to the ailing team. Irvin said that Owens was a great player but added, “he’s got some age on him.”

Irvin stayed classy with his response and it was apparent that he respects Owens. Although, in reading between the lines we can tell that Irvin believes T.O. is just plain too old to make an NFL comeback.

Irvin’s comments are not likely to deter a motivated Owens, though. He already went on record last week to say that he could “absolutely” help out the Philadelphia Eagles, who have since won their second game of the season.

We’ll have to see if Owens’ call to the Cowboys actually gets taken seriously. The team is in pretty bad shape, so things really couldn’t get much worse. And, just imagine the look on Irwin’s face if somehow Owens manages to pull this off and suit up with his former team.
