John Harbaugh on 1-4 Ravens: ‘It doesn’t wear me down’

The Baltimore Ravens have lost four of five games to open the 2015 NFL season, but head coach John Harbaugh isn’t worn down by the injuries that have affected the roster and contributed to the losses.

According to Ryan Mink of the team’s official site, Harbaugh said he’s determined to avoid that feeling and expects to win in Week 6.

“It doesn’t wear me down. I don’t get worn down. That will not happen. … It’s not going to be a matter of how we handle this adversity of being 1-4; we’ll handle it. And we’ll compete, and we’ll fight, and we’ll practice, and we’ll prepare. We’ll put the best football team out there that we can, and we’ll expect to win the next time we play.”

Tucked behind that bit of coach speak is that Baltimore has a legitimate chance to bounce back from a 33-30 overtime loss to the Cleveland Browns. The Ravens will challenge the 1-4 San Francisco 49ers, though Colin Kaepernick looked better in Week 5.

Unfortunately for Baltimore, the offense is without No. 1 receiver Steve Smith Sr., starting tight end Crockett Gillmore, goal-line back Lorenzo Taliaferro and the defense has battled through various injuries to Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, Chris Canty, Lardarius Webb and Will Davis.

The Ravens’ season is far from over, since a 9-7 record is probably what’s needed for the second AFC Wild Card spot. Nevertheless, Baltimore must start winning now, because the final four games of its season include the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals.

If Baltimore drops a couple contests in the next couple weeks, the losses might start to wear on Harbaugh—no matter how hard he tries to avoid the feeling.
