Bill Belichick mixes up social media and comes up with ‘SnapFace’

When New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addressed the media on Wednesday, he mixed up two popular social media platforms when responding to a reporter’s question.

Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Belichick was discussing how he met Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee when Lee was a kid back when Belichick coached the Browns from 1991-1995. Apparently, Reiss was distracted with his phone and didn’t quite catch Belichick’s comment:

“Did I hear you right that you said Sean Lee had visited you in Cleveland, or did I miss that? What is the connection?”

Belichick, who must have noticed Reiss occupied with his phone, responded with this:

“What were you, on SnapFace there or whatever you’re talking about?”

We’re not sure whether Belichick was referring to Facebook or Snapchat, however his clueless response drew chuckling from the crowd. Regardless, he did elaborate on how he knew the younger Lee:

“‘He’s a Pittsburgh guy, a friend of a friend-type thing, he came out to practices a couple of times,’ Belichick said, fondly recalling the days when Lee would have been anywhere between 5 and 9 years old. ‘He wasn’t the star that he is now.'”

The Patriots will go up against the Cowboys linebacker when the travel to Dallas for their Week 5 game.

In the meantime, Belichick needs a “Social Media for Dummies” course for the next time he attempts to dig a reporter checking his or her phone.
