The wait for Jason Pierre-Paul to return to the football field following a fireworks accident that led to a finger amputation might be over.
Jordan Raanan of NJ Advance Media cites a source who said the defensive end is in New Jersey and “ready” to play. Raanan said:
“Pierre-Paul been working out hard in South Florida and is in condition to play, according to the source. The hand, however, is still healing.”
Pierre-Paul, who is technically not yet under contract, sustained the injury during Fourth of July celebrations and has not been around the Giants since the accident.
New York is prepared to use the franchise tag on JPP, though Raanan notes the offer “could be altered” depending on the lineman’s physical condition.
The team certainly must be excited to have Pierre-Paul back in the fold, especially since the Giants’ first matchup of the 2015 season is against the rival Dallas Cowboys, which boast arguably the best offensive line in the NFL. Pierre-Paul might not be ready to occupy a full-time spot, but having him in the rotation would certainly be helpful.
NBC’s Sunday Night Football will showcase the 107th meeting between Dallas and New York, and Pierre-Paul seems likely to be involved in some manner.
