Bills RB LeSean McCoy says he is not 100 percent healthy

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is preparing to start on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, but he mentioned to reporters on Wednesday that he isn’t 100 percent healthy.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson provided this report, noting McCoy says he feels “good enough to go out there & compete.”

McCoy is expected to be Buffalo’s workhorse this season. He was brought over in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso after Eagles head coach Chip Kelly made it clear he didn’t see the back as a good fit in his scheme.

Rex Ryan was only too happy to scoop up a featured running back for his “bully” offense. The Bills aren’t likely to feature a pass-heavy offensive scheme under new offensive coordinator Greg Roman and new starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor. This means if McCoy can stay healthy this year nobody should be surprised if he ends up toting the rock 350-plus times.

Staying healthy isn’t exactly a given, though. While McCoy is only 27 years old, he has already been well-used since joining Philadelphia at the age of 21 in 2009. With 1,461 career carries he is nearing the stage in his career when many other running backs have started to break down.

Fantasy football owners have a dilemma in Week 1 with McCoy.

Hamstrings are notoriously tricky, and McCoy’s is apparently still bothering him enough for him to wonder if he’s fully healthy heading into the season-opener against the Colts. At this point, nobody should be surprised if he ends up receiving 30 hand-offs and rushing for 150 yards against Indy’s suspect run defense, or if he ends up re-aggravating the injury and is done by the end of the first quarter.
