The Buffalo Bills need a miracle at quarterback, and head coach Rex Ryan hasn’t made a big effort to side-step the dilemma under center.
According to ESPN’s Mike Rodak, Ryan said he hopes the competition will produce a clear winner like when Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson edged Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson in 2012.
Rex: “Seattle had a similar thing, when they had T. Jackson, Flynn and then the other quarterback. Let’s hope it works out the same way."

Through three NFL seasons, Wilson has earned one Super Bowl ring, two conference championships and two bids to the Pro Bowl. Unfortunately for Ryan and the Bills, that’s probably not happening in Western New York.
EJ Manuel—the team’s first-round pick in 2013—Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are battling for Buffalo’s starting gig. Manuel has only appeared in 15 of 32 possible contests, while Cassel attempted 71 passes last season and Taylor is a career backup.
The three-man battle will likely continue deep into the preseason. Rodak notes Ryan and his coaching staff will evaluate the quarterbacks “over at least a two-game stretch.”
Perhaps a clear starter will emerge for the Bills, but it’s safe to assume he won’t produce like Wilson.
