Report: LeSean McCoy expected back for Week 1

The Buffalo Bills don’t have a quarterback, and Tuesday provided a scare that they might not have a star running back, either.

LeSean McCoy injured his left hamstring and underwent an MRI, which ProFootballTalk reports revealed a favorable outcome: McCoy is expected to be ready for the regular season.

The former Philadelphia Eagles back certainly won’t appear in the remainder of the preseason while he rests the hamstring, which is a type of injury that often lingers if not given proper time to recover.

Buffalo acquired McCoy during the offseason in a trade with Philly, who signed DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews in free agency. McCoy has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in four of the last five seasons, and he tallied 840 yards in a concussion-shortened 2012 campaign.

Since the Bills have such a dismal quarterback situation, the hope in Western New York is that McCoy (and receiver Sammy Watkins) can carry the offense. McCoy tallied 16 yards on six carries in the preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.

Buffalo will open the 2015 campaign against the Indianapolis Colts on Sep. 13, and as of now, McCoy will be available for the matchup.
