Despite reports during the offseason that had us thinking San Diego Chargers long-time quarterback Philip Rivers might be entering his final season with the club, all was put to rest on Saturday.
Rivers and the Chargers agreed on a four-year extension that almost certainly ensures the quarterback will finish his career with the Bolts, wherever they play, as the deal included a no-trade clause.

The contract was rich, indeed—a four-year, $83.25 million extension.
Rumors surfaced prior to the 2015 NFL Draft that a potential trade to the Tennessee Titans was in the works for Rivers. Obviously, that never unfolded, and this new deal is proof that the Chargers are committed to him for the long-haul. San Diego will now keep its veteran quarterback, whether or not the team relocates to the Los Angeles, Ca. area.
It would appear that Rivers, who has never missed a start with the Chargers in nine years, will eventually retire as a Charger. Thus far in his career, Rivers has helped lead the Chargers to five playoff appearances.
Rivers will be 37 years old when he finishes out his four-year extension, provided his stellar history of good health prevails.
