John Harbaugh on Breshad Perriman’s knee: Slower healing than expected

John Harbaugh Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Breshad Perriman to replace Torrey Smith, but the rookie wide receiver still isn’t on the field for his new team.

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun notes Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Perriman hasn’t recovered from a knee injury as quickly as the team anticipated.

Perriman’s absence leaves a significant void in Baltimore. Behind veteran Steve Smith—who announced the 2015 campaign will be his final season—the offense’s best choices at receiver are Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown.

It’s safe to say the Ravens’ depth at receiver isn’t exactly glamorous, so running back Justin Forsett and the offensive line must shoulder a heavier load until Baltimore has Perriman back in the fold.

Back on July 30—the first day of training camp—Perriman sustained a sprained knee. He has not practiced since then and is highly doubtful to play in either of the team’s remaining postseason outings.

The Ravens open their 2015 slate against the Denver Broncos on Sep. 13, and quarterback Joe Flacco is going to need all available weapons to oppose that stout defense in the Mile High City.
