J.J. Watt: “It’s fine to show a little flare”

J.J. Watt

The Houston Texans and Washington football team engaged in a handful of mini brawls during a joint practice held in Richmond, Virginia, but J.J. Watt doesn’t seem to think it was a big deal.

According to ESPN’s Tania Ganguli, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year appeared on SportsCenter and offered a simple defense of the fights.

While the multiple scuffles didn’t exactly ruin anything in particular, the 11-on-11 portion showcasing the Washington offense vs. the Texans defense lasted but a few snaps.

Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III was seen jogging away from the brawls, and Watt watched from a distance.

Other than ending that portion of practice sooner than anticipated, the biggest problem is that the fights accomplished nothing. Yes, they happen. However brawls on three consecutive plays? Well, that’s not typical.

It’s fine to show a little flare on the field, but a little football during practice would be good, too.
