Increased national television exposure will help Anthony Davis cement superstar status

Anthony Davis trade

New Orleans Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis is already a superstar in the NBA, but the lack of national exposure hasn’t helped “The Brow” become a mainstream celebrity.

That’s about to change.

The league released its 2015-16 schedule Wednesday night, and the Pelicans will appear on ESPN, ABC, TNT and NBATV a combined 21 times throughout the regular season.

New Orleans opens the campaign against the defending-champion Golden State Warriors, who also knocked out Davis and Co. during the first round of the 2015 postseason. Additionally, the nation will be able to watch Davis on Christmas Day, when the Pelicans travel to challenge the Miami Heat.

Not that he necessarily cares, but Davis will have plenty of opportunities to shine in front of a widespread audience. The 22-year-old is poised to replace LeBron James as the face of the NBA within the next decade—yes, really, Davis is that caliber of player.

Last season, he destroyed opponents for 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and a league-leading 2.9 blocks per outing, adding 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals. He boasted a 122 offensive rating while compiling an impressive 100 defensive clip.

How awesome are those numbers? Well, according to Basketball-Reference.com, the best comparisons for Davis’ 2014-15 campaign are from David Robinson, Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon and Patrick Ewing—quite the impressive company.

Davis helped New Orleans return to the postseason for the first time since 2011, and the Pelicans should remain in the playoff picture throughout his career. He’s a transcendent talent who can carry a franchise, something he already proved last season.

Basketball fans should be ecstatic they’re going to see Davis’ ever-growing dominance on a regular basis.

Davis is already a superstar, but now, he’ll be treated like one.
