Adam Jones on Odell Beckham Jr.: “He’s no A.J.” Green

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. exploded during his rookie season, but he and Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones both agree that A.J. Green is a step above OBJ.

According to Jordan Raanan of NJ Advance Media, Jones called the second-year wideout a good athlete and good player but opined:

“He has a lot of work to do to be A.J.”

Additionally, per Raanan, Beckham acknowledged that one stellar season doesn’t place him on Green’s level. He said:

“A.J. has been doing this for four years. He’s been consistent for four years. Just find a way to be consistent and hopefully you reach a point where A.J.’s at.”

Green, a fifth-year wideout for the Bengals, is widely considered an elite receiver. The Georgia product has eclipsed the 1,000-yard barrier in each of his four NFL seasons, finishing the 2014 campaign with 1,041 despite missing three games.

Beckham missed the four outings of his rookie year due to a hamstring injury, but he quickly asserted himself as one of the league’s most proficient receivers. The 5’11” target reeled in 91 passes for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns, including his unbelievable one-handed catch.

Beckham showed he has the potential to establish himself as a receiver of Green’s caliber. However, like Beckham said, he must consistently show dominance as a pass-catcher.

Considering Beckham is only 22 years old, it’s a safe bet he can reach A.J.’s level in a couple seasons.
