Tim Duncan to Return to the Spurs in 2015-16

This can’t be considered too surprising. There might have been talk of Tim Duncan potentially hanging it up after his San Antonio Spurs were eliminated early on during the playoffs, but those talks since gave way to the potential that Duncan and company are looking for at least one more run at the prize.

Duncan just recently told San Antonio Express-News reporter Mike Monroe that he will be returning to the Spurs for his 19th season with the team. Already a five-time NBA champion, Duncan will find himself in a good position to win a sixth title this upcoming season.

The Spurs are in the midst of courting free agent big man LaMarcus Aldridge—a courtship that may very well end in the All-Star suiting up with Duncan next season. The team also re-signed sharp-shooting wing player Danny Green to a four-year deal on Wednesday.

With everything seemingly coming together for San Antonio, it makes sense that Duncan would return to the team. After all, he was part of the pitch to Aldridge’s camp early Wednesday morning.

The interesting thing to look at here will be Duncan’s contract. With Green back in the fold and Aldridge potentially coming to San Antonio, the Spurs can’t necessarily pay Duncan what his market value suggests.
