The NFL Supplemental draft normally goes by unnoticed. In fact, the last player to be selected in this specific draft was Terrelle Pryor by the Oakland Raiders back in 2011.
With seven players eligible for the draft on Thursday, only one heard his name “called.”
Former Clemson offensive tackle Isaiah Battle was picked up by the St. Louis Rams in the fifth round, which means the team will forfeit its fifth-round selection in the 2016 NFL draft next May.
Battle’s decision to enter the supplemental draft had a lot to do with a family situation that saw him preparing to welcome a child to the world this summer. The 6-foot-6, 312-pound left tackle also had his fair share of off-field issues at Clemson, including two separate suspensions.
Considering Battle was selected in the fifth round, there’s a good chance he will end up making the Rams final 53-man roster. Teams don’t just throw mid-round picks out there to get rid of a player within months.
