Report: Phoenix Suns Sign Tyson Chandler, Continue to Eye LaMarcus Aldridge

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly made a pretty big splash during the opening day of free agency. The team has apparently inked former Dallas Mavericks big man and defensive stalwart Tyson Chandler.

Chandler, 32, will provide a much-needed interior presence for the Suns in 2015-16 and moving forward. As a former All NBA Defensive Team performer, Chandler will help Phoenix overcome what had in the past been major issues defending the rim and rebounding the ball. He averaged 10.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last season. In addition to this, Chandler pulled down nearly four offensive rebounds per outing.

A part of what could potentially be a bigger deal for the Suns, Chandler is apparently ready to join the team’s upcoming pitch to free agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge—the top dog in this year’s free agent class.

With Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe now locked up on long-term deals, the Suns could very well put themselves in contention in the Western Conference if they are able to land both Aldridge and Chandler.

At the very least, the first pin has dropped here. It will be interesting to see if Chandler is enough to lure Aldridge to the desert.

Chandler’s deal is said to be worth $52 million over four seasons.
