Packers Release Brief Statement About Andrew Quarless’ Arrest

Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless spent his Fourth of July in Miami, FL. allegedly firing two gun shots into the air after getting into an argument with a group of women near a parking garage.

While Quarless’ fate with the Packers remains up in the air, a team spokesman released this very short statement regarding the tight end:

“We are aware of the matter involving Andrew Quarless and are in the process of gathering more information. We will withhold further comment.”

The fact that the team did not immediately release Quarless after hearing about his arrest is good news for him, at least for the moment. The Packers are not following the zero tolerance route that other teams have taken recently. In March, the Baltimore Ravens immediately released running back Bernard Pierce after he was arrested for a DUI.

Then in June, the New England Patriots released linebacker Brandon Spikes when news of an alleged hit and run broke.

The Packers are likely doing their own investigation. However, anything short of Quarless being cleared completely could have the team looking for another tight end prior to training camp.

Quarless is coming off his most productive season thus far with the Packers. He totaled 29 receptions, 323 yards and three touchdowns in 2014.
