Matt Cassel opens up Bills training camp handling first team reps

The Buffalo Bills quarterback competition will be one that likely doesn’t produce a winner until late into the preseason. However, quarterback Matt Cassel reportedly took reps with the first team when training camp started Friday.

Tyrod Taylor also received some first-team reps while E. J. Manuel and Matt Simms practiced with the second-team offense.

It was noted by observers that Cassel struggled on deep passes—observations that align with reports from the offseason that say Cassel was underwhelming. At this time, we shouldn’t read much into the order in which the quarterbacks started camp. We could see the group switching it up on Saturday.

The Bills’ quarterback competition will be one of a few that we will monitor over the preseason. Unfortunately, it consists of a not-so-exciting cast of competitors. This is an area where the team will struggle to compete with its AFC East competition.
