Does DeSean Jackson Really Own the NFC East?

DeSean Jackson

Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson debuted on his own reality show “DeSean Jackson Home Team” earlier this week, and the wideout was not shy about ruffling some feathers and declaring that he owns the NFC East.

According to ESPN’s John Keim, Jackson had this to say of his NFC East competition:

“I don’t care too much about the Cowboys. I’m called a Cowboy killer. They call me the Cowboy killer. I’m a Giants killer, I’m a Cowboys killer, now I’m an Eagles killer, too.”

Jackson is somewhat-correct about owning the Eagles in 2014. During his two meetings opposite his former team, he recorded 243 yards and one touchdown. The Redskins knocked off Philadelphia in Week 16.

Jackson’s performance against Dallas last season is almost as impressive. In the two contests with the Cowboys, Jackson totaled 222 yards and one touchdown, and Washington earned a victory in Week 8.

As for the New York Giants in 2014, Jackson certainly was not a “killer.” Jackson managed a lowly 24 receiving yards and zero touchdowns against the Giants, who beat Washington in both games.

Looking at his overall career, NFL Media’s Marc Sessler points out Jackson has tallied 3.6 receptions per game against the NFC East compared to 4.3 catches versus the rest of the league. As for career yardage, Jackson has averaged 67.2 yards in his divisional meetings, a small drop from 73.9 per game against the other NFL teams.

If Washington could actually improve their overall win record perhaps Jackson’s words might carry more weight. Sadly, the team came in as the bottom-feeders against their NFC East competition last year, finishing with a 4-12 record.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see who’ll be Jackson’s target on the next episode of DeSean Jackson Home Team.
