The Pittsburgh Steelers totaled a franchise-best 436 points last season. That equates to 27.3 points per game. This season, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger wants to top last year’s numbers.
“We want to start fast and we want to be able to put 30 points on the board in every game,” Roethlisberger told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Sunday.”
In 2014, the team achieved record highs not only in total points, but in yards per game and in first downs. Roethlisberger contributed to these record stats by leading the league in passing yards with 4,952. Additionally, he completed a career-high 67.1 percent of his passes. Wideout Antonio Brown tallied the most receiving yards among his fellow receivers with 1,698 and running back Le’Veon Bell piled up a total of 2,215 rushing and receiving yards.
Boasting about his supporting cast, Roethlisberger shared this:
“That group in front of me is as good as any in the league, and as good as any I’ve ever had. It’s great,” he said. “Then you look at outside receiver. AB is as good as anybody in this league and arguably one of the greatest that I’ve played with. Just all around on offense, we have just a special group. It has a chance to be really good.”
At 33, Roethlisberger is coming off his two best seasons and appears to be in the prime of his career. Now prepared to take his offense to the next level, opposing defenses should fear what Big Ben and company will bring to the table in 2015. Whether that equates to a Super Bowl run is another story.
