Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf addressed the media for the first time since September when he claimed the team made a “mistake” by activating running back Adrian Peterson following his arrest on child abuse charges.
Now that Peterson and the Vikings appear to have mended fences and the running back has returned to practice with the team, Wilf discussed the situation and Peterson publicly:
“He’s always had a good heart,” Wilf said (via The Pioneer Press). “He’s a great football player. We have great memories, and we’ll continue to have good memories with him. … He’s been great for the community, and that’s basically who he is, and when you know that’s the character of that person, you believe in him.”
After what has been a contentious past year between Peterson and the Vikings, Wilf indicated it is time to “move on.” Currently, Peterson is under contract for three more seasons at a total cost of $44.25 million.
Not only is Wilf ready to sweep the whole Peterson nightmare under the rug and move forward, he also believes the Vikings could be headed for great things in 2015:
“…I mean, we can win the Super Bowl, but I stopped making my predictions, I think, in my third season (of ownership).”
To Wilf’s credit, the Vikings look solid on paper. Keeping Peterson in the fold will only enhance the team’s chances of contending in 2015.
