Titans’ TE Delanie Walker “I Broke Records and Scored Touchdowns and No One Cared”

Despite the fact that the Tennessee Titans only managed two lousy wins last season, tight end Delanie Walker put up the best performance of his NFL career. He managed 63 receptions for 890 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Not only did Walker achieve his career highs, he broke a franchise record along the way. His 890 yards were the most for a tight end in Titans’ history.

That’s wonderful and all, but Walker feels pretty deflated from the overall experience.

“Last year, I felt like I did more and no one cared,” he said, via Titans 24/7. “I broke records and scored touchdowns and no one cared. We’ve got to win more as a team. I think even if I have a good year and we don’t have a good year as a team, who cares, right? But if win together, then the individual guys get the accolades they deserve.”

It is unfortunate that one player can achieve such personal success and break records while the team as a whole is looked at as bottom feeders. This is exactly what Walker’s situation was last season.

The good news here is Walker and the Titans gained an upgrade at the quarterback position with Marcus Mariota, who many teams coveted prior to the NFL draft.

If Walker is able to overcome this feeling of disrespect and continues to excel in the passing game, he may have an even better season in 2015. It’s now all about the team performing at a much higher level.
