Terrelle Pryor Plans to Give “Slash-Player Deal a Chance”

Quarterback turned wide receiver Terrelle Pryor now finds himself a member of the Cleveland Browns after being abruptly cut by the Cincinnati Bengals this month.

As it stands, Pryor’s only chance to play football is to be flexible and attempt to learn the wide receiver position in order to maintain a roster spot once the Browns conclude their training camp. Pryor stated this regarding his change of position (via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review).

“I’m going to give this slash-player deal a chance. I just want to play football. I’m a playmaker, and I believe if I can touch the ball, I can go to the house, especially if I have space. This should definitely open up some opportunities.”

Pryor’s term of “slash-player” is intriguing. Can we assume that he is referring to the fact that he will play wide receiver and hopefully dabble as the team’s quarterback on occasion? That’s not likely going to be the case with the Browns firm on Josh McCown starting this season.

Since the position switch, Pryor posted this video of himself practicing his routes.

Pryor also reported that he will be training with Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and former NFL legend Randy Moss in order to learn the ropes at the wide receiver position.

Pryor also had this to say about his potential role as a receiver:

“The thing that helps me is that I played quarterback, and I know what the quarterback wants. What I’ve got to work on is the specifics, cutting in and out of the breaks. Athletically, I believe I can do anything on the field. When I get on the field, I may not be the best, but I always feel like I am. I bring that mindset. I work my hardest to be the best I can at that position.”

While the Browns still lack a dynamic player at wide receiver, Pryor will have to learn the role quickly if he’s going to break camp with the team.
