Reports: Cavaliers Guard Matthew Dellavedova Taken to Hospital for Cramps

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova literally gave it everything he had for his team in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night.

The backup guard, who is starting in Kyrie Irving’s stead, scored 20 points and brought down five rebounds in Cleveland’s 96-91 win over the Golden State Warriors.

He also suffered extreme cramping during the 39-minute outing.

According to multiple media reports at the scene outside of Quicken Loans Arena early Wednesday morning, Dellavedova was taken to Cleveland Clinic for treatment:

The first report came from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin:

Local Warriors broadcaster Jim Barnett then followed that up with more detailed information:

This might not mean a whole lot on the surface, but it’s important to note that cramping can be more serious than most people think. In most cases, it’s brought on by severe dehydration. Considering he was already given an IV, it’s alarming that Dellavedova still had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

While this shouldn’t impact his status for Game 4 on Thursday night, it’s still something to keep an eye on.
