Report: Martellus Bennett Reports to Bears Facility Early

Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett likely wants to avoid the fine he would have received if he skipped the team’s mandatory minicamp this week. The tight end reportedly showed up at Halas Hall one day early for his physical, according to The Chicago Tribune.

Bennett has held out of all previous Bears activities this offseason as an attempt to leverage himself into a new contract. After reports surfaced that Bennett was not happy with his current contract, the Bears placed him on the trading block.

After nothing came of that, it now appears that Bennett has backed down and plans to play under his existing contract. Bennett was an integral part of the Bears’ offense in 2014, leading all other NFL tight ends in receptions with 90. Having him in the facility to learn Adam Gase’s new offense during minicamp is big for the Bears.

The veteran is set to make just $10 million over the next two seasons.
