Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly Impressed by Tim Tebow

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tim Tebow joined the team back in April with the expectation that he would make the 53-man roster. It was an expectation that not many shared with him. After all, the former first-round pick found himself fourth in line at quarterback.

Through the team’s offseason activities, it’s become readily apparent that Tebow may very well find himself on the roster when all is said and done.

In fact, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly had some glowing comments regarding his new quarterback this week:

“I have seen an improvement from Tim (Tebow) since the day we got him in terms of his knowledge of what we’re doing, understanding where everybody is,” Kelly said, via the Delaware County Daily Times. “There’s a whole process, and for him what we have done is different than what he’s done anywhere else. So in terms of learning our terminology and how we do things, I think each week you’ve seen an incremental bump in him, so we’re excited to see where that takes him and it’ll be a good competition as we get into August.”

Considering Kelly isn’t one to throw praise the way of his players, these comments have to mean something. Kelly also pretty much assured us that Tebow will be with the team during training camp later this summer.

With Sam Bradford still recovering from the torn ACL he suffered last year, some thought Tebow was nothing more than practice fodder. While that may very well still be the case, it’s apparent the former Heisman winner is potentially in the team’s plans moving forward. At the very least, it’s possible that Tebow now has the upper-hand over Matt Barkley to be the No. 3 quarterback behind Bradford and Mark Sanchez.
