Baltimore Ravens Want to see Marlon Brown Break Out this Season

The Baltimore Ravens drafted wide receiver Breshad Perriman in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft. However, that does not mean third-year wide receiver Marlon Brown should be discounted this season.

During the team’s offseason activities, head coach John Harbaugh had Brown lining up opposite veteran Steve Smith Sr. on the first-team offense. Harbaugh spoke about what they expect from Brown this season:

“I have high hopes for him,” Harbaugh said recently, via the Ravens’ official website. “I really want to see him break out. It’s time for him to step up and become what he’s capable of doing. He’s very determined to do that.”

Along with Brown, special teamer Kamar Aiken also played with the first-team offense. Harbaugh indicated that when training camp starts next month Brown will battle with both Aiken and Perriman for the starting role.

“It’s very competitive,” wide receivers coach Bobby Engram said. “Marlon has done what he always does, which is make plays.”

Brown did not make too many plays during the 2014 season. He tallied only 24 catches, 255 yards and zero touchdowns. However, during the 2013 season, Brown put up 524 yards and seven scores. At 6-foot-5, the Georgia product could definitely act as a solid red-zone threat should his all-around game actually show improvement.

With the departure of wideout Torrey Smith, the Ravens certainly have big shoes to fill this season. It sounds like Brown could be the guy primed for the position.
